To receive this maximum as your monthly benefit, you needed to earn $560,000 per annum under the definition of ‘insurable income’ (gross earnings minus expenses required to earn your income).

Insurance companies limit benefits on Income Protection policies to ensure that there remains a financial incentive for the claimant on a policy to return to work – therefore it is not possible to insure 100% of your income.

Due to ever increasing costs of living we have recently seen insurers allowing up to $60,000 per month benefits to allow for this increased cost of living in the event that a major bread winner of a family is unable to work due to accident or illness.
